Benefactors
Azul Wasi is only possible thru the contributions of many giving individuals and organizations. Highlighted below is a list of those that have spent time and effort that is much appreciated.
Sarah Oakes with her group (LAFF – Latin American Foundation for the Future) made the bakery possible and has thrown other fundraising events to help with many other projects.
The people of St Andrew’s Church have been devoted supporters of Azul Wasi and the children from the start. They have regularly made an outstanding effort in fundraising for this noble cause, which speaks volumes about the character of the congregation. Learn more about their efforts.
Dignity for Children has been supporting Azul Wasi and several other programs benefiting extremely poor children in developing countries.
CerviCusco is a Peruvian registered non-profit association dedicated to preventing cervical cancer. CerviCusco maintains a modern medical center in Cusco, Peru permanently staffed by a Peruvian healthcare team. Expert foreign medical providers work at CerviCusco on a volunteer basis throughout the year. They have been providing medical exams for Azul Wasi since 2009.
Notable Contributions
Creating Azul Wasi was no easy task and involved a great amount of effort from a number of people. While we are hoping to include everyone that’s been involved we realize that it took many more people than are mentioned below. We hope to include more information in the future, but we wanted to mention several people that have made Azul Wasi possible.
Throughout the construction period many students from different countries have helped by painting, drawing, digging, bringing materials. Often these volunteers come from institutions like Catholic missionaries and the Lion Club in Cusco.
Jo Webber and Oli - Donated the land so that Azul Wasi could be built.
Tom Jolly - Works with GlobalEd and in schools in Cusco and England. He has helped to organize fundraising parties for the project.
Sarah Broxholme - a psychologist who has worked with Alcides and Tom Jolly and has organized salsa nights to fundraise.
Tom Jolly and Sarah Broxholme - their fundraising efforts made it possible to also drain the land.
Fran Talavera and Sofia Lema set up a fundraiser night in Cusco, which raised enough money to hire some tractors and open up the access road. Both Sofia and Fran were very instrumental in the start up of Azul Wasi.
Mary Pountain and Fran Talavera along with their families and friends have worked with St. Andrew's church, and independently, to throw fundraising events that have funded the construction of the project. The people of St Andrew's Church are continuing to support Azul Wasi by donating regularly towards the monthly living expenses.
Amazing Peru - donated a lot of pipes for water and accessories for these pipes.
Madventurer built the bakery with stones, adobe and sticks.
Anna Lena and Sandro Billavite helped the children that work on the streets. Alcides also works with these street children - some of whom end up at Azul Wasi.
Tiffany & Mark Brown along with Joel Nix have thrown fundraisers that have made the greenhouse and bathrooms possible. They have also raised money for food, school supplies, animals, hygienic supplies and more. They are currently setting up a 501C3 in the US that will help them to raise money going forward.
Josh Silveira has volunteered his time to make this website possible. He is also going to serve on the Board of Directors of the upcoming 501C3 currently being set up by Tiffany, Mark and Joel.
Alcides Jordan - Has personally contributed money that includes covering the difference of the monthly budget, land surveying, renting machinery, transporting materials which are expensive pieces of the project that have not gone unnoticed. Azul Wasi was his dream that is now becoming realized.
With the help of so many this project has been made possible. There is still a long way to go. We still take in less than is required to run a project like this. We are all still trying to throw more fundraisers and to get more people involved to see that this project will continue to grow. We hope to be able to provide internships and job opportunities for the children going forward so that when they leave Azul Wasi they will have the skills required to change their lives and the lives of their families. If you would like to help in any way please contact us. We can always use volunteers, donations or ideas...
